Rostec presents modernized Ansat concept at Paris Air Show

News release

Rostec showcases state-of-the-art civilian aircraft and engines at the international aerospace industry exhibition Paris Air Show 2019. Russian civilian helicopters are presented at the biennial exhibition for the first time in 30 years: multi-purpose Ansat helicopters by Russian Helicopters take part in a static exposition and the flight program forming part of the air show. The concept of upgrading this model was also presented at the event.

The light multi-purpose Ansat helicopter made by the Kazan Helicopter Plant has the largest cabin within its class and is actively used by the Russian air medical services. It can also be used for passenger and VIP transport, cargo delivery and environmental monitoring. Two versions of the Ansat helicopter, a medical and a VIP one, are presented at the Paris Air Show. The machines have been painted specifically for the event with a livery color scheme representing both the Russian and French flags.

“Russian civilian helicopters have taken part in the Paris Air Show for the first time since 1989. The Ansat helicopters have already been given high scores at air shows in other regions – contracts have been concluded for supplying 20 machines to China in 2019 and 2020, and it is planned to supply them to Mexico until 2020. This is the first time the helicopters have been presented in Europe. Moreover, one of the two machines presents a concept of the upgraded Ansat helicopter with several new design solutions and options,” said Industrial Director of Rostec’s Aviation Cluster Anatoly Serdyukov.

The Ansat demonstrated at the Paris Air Show is equipped with a “glass cabin” – new avionics which ensure flights in accordance with instrument flight rules. The helicopter also has a weather radar, enhanced ground proximity warning module, crash-resistant fuel system, LED lighting tools, and a wire cutter for wire strike protection. There are changes in the helicopter design as well. It has modified tail boom fins made of composite materials and bird-strike-resistant heated glass.

At the exhibition the United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec) presented a model of the latest PD-14 engine for the narrow-body medium-range MC-21-300 aircraft. This is the first turbofan engine for civil aviation since the 1980s which is fully made in Russia. Originally it was designed taking into account international standards and requirements. PD-14 is developed using the latest technologies and materials, including composite materials, and provides a reduction in specific fuel consumption by 10-15%. In 2018 the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) issued a type certificate for the PD-14 engine. Validation of the certificate for this engine by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is underway.

The international air show in Le Bourget is one of the largest and oldest air shows in the world. It takes place biennially at Paris–Le Bourget Airport, 12 kilometers from Paris. Russia regularly participates in the show. The first Russian aircraft presented in France in 1936 was ANT-35. In 1965 the Soviet Union showed Mi6, Mi8 and Mi10 helicopters for the first time at Paris Air Show.
