COVID-19 : Russia sends equipments to Algeria

The information was given by our colleagues from the Jeune Independent on April 27, Russia provided technical and medical aid to Algeria to fight the epidemic of COVID-19.

“This aid, which is expected to arrive at the Boufarik military airport, will consist essentially of coveralls for medical personnel, thermometers, surgical masks, multi-layer masks, sampling kits, and tests,” a diplomatic source told Jeune Independent. From our side, we were able to get more details regarding this operation. It is the Russian arms export agency (Rosoboronexport) which centralized cooperation with Algeria on these operations to deliver equipment to fight COVID-19. Rosoboronexport, acquired for the benefit of Algeria, medical protective equipment (non-contact infrared thermometers, protective suits, medical masks, etc.).

This donation was sent to Algeria by cargo plane. A Russian military-diplomatic source explained to us that this donation came in gratitude from the Algerian assistance, at the beginning of April, to the repatriation of Russian specialists who had completed their mission to their country. This operation was carried out despite the absence of air links thanks to the involvement of the Algerian Air Force which organized and supported two flights to Russia and the charter of a flight by Rosoboronexport.

“The Russian people are sincerely grateful to Algeria for its assistance in the return of our citizens. Cooperation in the fight against COVID 19 strengthens the aspect of humanitarian cooperation in Russian-Algerian relations”, – told Menadefense.net top Russian source.

It is quite obvious, adds this source, that this assistance came to confirm the friendship between Moscow and Algiers and the close relations especially in the military-technical field.
